Physician Assistant Student Elective in Plastic Surgery

Working with Dr. Michelow during my elective clinical rotation as a Physician Assistant student was truly an honor and a privilege to experience the field of Plastic Surgery.

He is a gifted surgeon and incredible teacher which made my time spent at Contemporary Cosmetic Surgery a rich learning experience. During this clinical rotation, Dr. Michelow was generous in sharing information about clinical techniques, patient interactions, and professional demeanor.

It was beneficial to have to opportunity to first assist during most surgery cases. Having the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Michelow has allowed me to improve my clinical skills such as suturing, various injections, and incision and drainages.

Surgeries ranged from extensive reconstructive and cosmetic cases in the operating room to various in-office procedures. It was interesting to work with a patient population ranging in age from toddlers to the elderly and being involved in surgery cases dealing with every part of the body from head to toe.

Dr. Michelow left me inspired to reach further and do more in my career as a PA. I would highly recommend other PA students interested in furthering their clinical skills to experience an elective rotation working with Dr. Michelow and his extremely helpful and caring office staff at Contemporary Cosmetic Surgery.

Community Support

Collaboration with Beachwood, High School Senior Marketing Class.

Results are in:
When it Comes to Skin Health, Teens Hear but Don’t Listen.

Contemporary Cosmetic Surgery is proud to be located in Beachwood, OH.

Dr. Michelow has a strong commitment to this forward looking city and has been a long-time member of Beachwood’s Chamber of Commerce. Therefore our office was excited to mentor the Beachwood High School Senior’s marketing class in a unique project.

As a well-regarded cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon, Dr. Michelow has removed and reconstructed many skin cancers ranging from basal cell carcinoma to deadly melanomas. He is convinced that to ensure that you have healthy skin that will last a lifetime, skincare must begin early.

Teenagers must be made aware of the dangers of smoking, tanning booths and sunburn.

As a sponsor of Mrs. Jean’s Getz’s marketing class, Contemporary Cosmetic Surgery’s staff learned how teens think about their skin. The marketing class conducted focus groups with 55 teenagers ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old.

The findings:

Although teens hear the message that tanning can be dangerous to their skin, can lead to skin cancer and early aging later in life, they are not listening.

The majority of teens continued to visit tanning booths and to use sunscreen only on vacation.

In addition to conducting focus groups, the high schooler’s secondary research revealed that

Teens do what their friends do…

They offered an outstanding marketing campaign with a slogan – “Bold, Healthy Skin for Life.”

The class will be presenting their project to the Beachwood School Board, on April 11, 2011.
